The (older) ToTaLcontrol software package enables control of the PLATO spectacles using a PC system running Windows (XP or 2000). Pulses may be either externally triggered, or internally driven according to (almost) any conceivable experimental timing protocol. Although functionally very similar to the newer ToTaL Control System, the ToTaLcontrol Software is constrained by the need to have a computer that has a real parallel port. (This means that it is not possible, for example, to use the software with a USB-to-parallel port converter.)
To use the ToTaLcontrol software, it is necessary to connect the PC’s 25 pin parallel port output to the PLATO Driving Circuit. This requires a special, custom built cable. Furthermore, if one wishes to activate the software through external (event related) triggering signals, the cable has to be able to route those signals also to the parallel port. It is very possible to construct this cable on one’s own, but for those who either do not wish to construct such a cable, or who are not capable of doing so, we are able to provide custom made cables.
